Tammie Jo Shults (née Bonnell)  is an American commercial airline captain and retired naval aviator. Known for being one of the first female F/A-18 Hornet pilots in the United States Navy, following active duty service, she subsequently became a pilot for Southwest Airlines. On April 17, 2018, she made an emergency landing after the jet blew an engine and lost a window in a flurry of shrapnel, is being praised for her "nerves of steel" in helping to prevent a far worse tragedy after the catastrophe killed one passenger being partially sucked out her window, and left seven others hurt. Shults was at the controls of the Dallas-bound Flight 1380 when it made an emergency landing in Philadelphia.
